Our 4.6 acre parcel of Tablas clone Syrah was planted on the highest hill of our estate—the site of an ancient riverbank—almost 25 years ago. Our diurnal climate ripens the grapes during the warm days, then sends the vines into hibernation during the cool nights to preserve acid and structure, resulting in fruit of great elegance and balance. Rhône aficionado Jeb Dunnuck tastes a barrel sample of this wine each year before it is bottled, which he did for this vintage almost a year ago while it was still maturing in barrel. Here's what he had to say at the time:
"...the 2018 Syrah Estate comes all from the estate in the Los Olivos District and will spend 26 months in 45% new French oak. Giving up lots of blueberry and black raspberry fruits as well as notes of peppered meats, new leather, and spice, it's medium to full-bodied, has ripe tannins, a mouthfilling texture, and a great finish. 91-93 points"
