Sourced from premium Happy Canyon Vineyard fruit, each year's release of Cabernet Sauvignon is exciting for us as an expression of this singular AVA within our valley. The vineyard block itself is an amazing sight—a giant sloped hillside rising steeply from the ground high into the Santa Ynez Valley atmosphere. The soil is equally unique, with large cobbles of serpentine stone that force grapevines to dig deep and struggle for sufficient nutrients and water, which produces low-yields and high-quality fruit.
Our 2018 vintage strikes the perfect balance between ripe and underripe fruit tones. The nose reveals notes of plum skin, black cherry, and cedar. On the palate, a striking balance of bright acid and fleshy tannins culminate in a finish that rests long on the palate with cinnamon and anise tones. It’s a wine that will stand up to a steak, but also pair well with lighter dishes too.
